Different Types of Natural Resources

Here you can read about different types of natural resources. Natural resources can be defined as physical entities created by nature and used by humans. They are limited, but we often forget about this fact. Here are several examples or natural resources.

Different Types of Natural Resources

- Air
- Water
- Atmosphere
- Wind
- Animals
- Wildlife
- Plants
- Forests
- Coal
- Fossil fuels
- Soils
- Rivers
- Lakes
- Oceans

People are often quite unaware of the fact that natural resources are limited. They do not regenerate every day. Some of them do, but most of them just don’t regenerate that easy.

We use natural resources for various purposes. We use them for our own needs. Here are several examples.

- We use water for many different purposes. We use it for drinking, irrigation, transportation (oceans, rivers, seas and lakes are used as routes), fishing, and for producing hydro-electricity. Water is an extremely important natural resource. Without it, life on this planet would be impossible. According to many researches, the first forms of life were created in water. Very large percentage of water on our planet is polluted, and we should definitely do something about it.

- Soil is another very important natural resource. We use it for growing plants, for making various types of shelters, and other purposes.

- We also use minerals, like gas, copper, iron, petroleum, gold, etc. These minerals are important and used for various purposes, but they are limited. Coal, fossil fuels and natural gas are great sources of energy.

- Animals are used for food production and making clothes. Some of them are used for transportation in some parts of the world.

- Plants are used for many purposes. We use them for food production, making medications, and various goods we need for living. However, plants are very important! That is why we must think about forests.

Natural resources can be classified as nonrenewable and renewable. Nonrenewable natural resources are those that cannot be reproduced. Fossil fuels belong to this category. Renewable resources can be reproduced. Animals and plants are some of the renewable natural resources.

Some scientists sound worried about the way we exploit natural resources. They claim that if we keep doing what we’re doing, we will run out of resources to use. These claims should be taken seriously.
